The Technology Infusion Process

What are some examples of successful technology infusion?

A generalized framework to structure the process of technology infusion

  1. Read the existing lesson plan.
  2. Analyze the existing lesson plan according to the following elements:
    1. Subject-matter (content)
    2. Resources
    3. Learning activities
    4. Communication activities
    5. Assessment activities
  3. For each element, consider the following questions:
    1. What are the essentials of this lesson plan in terms of this element?
    2. What are the strengths of this lesson plan in terms of this element?
    3. What could be improved about this lesson plan in terms of this element?
  4. Choose one or more elements to consider for technology infusion
    1. How is technology currently used?
    2. What are the ways that technology could be used in this element of this lesson?
      1. Internet/Web
      2. Other electronic resources
      3. Application software
      4. Special purpose hardware (e.g. probes)
    3. Look for models in which others have modified similar lesson plans to incorporate technology.
  5. For each way that technology could be used, consider the following questions:
    1. Could technology make this element more authentic?
    2. Could technolgy make this element more engaging for the students?
    3. Could technology make this element easier to teach?
    4. Could technology make this element more multisensory, multimedial, or multidimensional?
  6. Reject all technology possibilities that do not improve the element in one or more of these ways.
  7. Select one or more technology possibilities to explore further.
  8. Rewrite the lesson plan to incorporate new technologies.
