Discussion of a Variety of Pedagogical Approaches. Presenting overview of instructional strategy and leading discussion.
Go beyond the obvious; learn from your research; teach us something new!
- 15-20 minute presentation with handout(s), visual aids (PPT or something else)
- 10-15 minute discussion/activity designed to exemplify the approach or to increase insight into its strengths and weaknesses. Goal is to engage the other class members in a meaningful learning activity.
- Must include bibliography with at least 5 web resources and at least 5 print resources (books, articles, etc.); send to members of the class in advance of talk.
- Luci and Christine: Problem-based learning (and tell us about anchored instruction as well)
- Laura and Sandy: Direct instruction vs. Constructivsm (figure out a way to teach us the contrasts)
- Sarah and Mary: Collaborative Groups (and tell us when this is useful as opposed to whole-class or individual learning)
- Margaret and Al: Engaged Learning (and tell us the differences between that and "meaningful learning")
