Who am I and What do I do?

• Research Associate for Technology and Teacher Education at the Center for School Improvement, University of Chicago

• Founder and Director, Web Institute for Teachers, University of Chicago

• Former Director of Curriculum, Chicago Public Schools/University of Chicago Internet Project (CUIP)

• Author, Curriculum Webs: A Practical Gudie to Weaving the Web into Teaching and Learning (Allyn and Bacon, 2003)

• Former High School mathematics and chemistry teacher

• Trained as a Philosopher of Education

• A "techie" by disposition

Why am I here?

• Motivated by personal memories of dull and repetitive learning activities in school

• Inspired by select few memories of excellent and exciting educational experiences

• Attracted to vision of schooling that could be always engaging, always challenging, always individualized, always humane

• Resigned to helping real teachers and real schools to be more engaging, challenging, individualized, humane
